JBoss Application Platform Arrives
An expansion out of mere operating systems and heavy on the enterprise as its target market

Digg This!

Red Hat has delivered JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 4.2, an expansion out of mere operating systems and heavy on the enterprise as its target market.

It combines the JBoss open source application server with the Hibernate persistence engine and the JBoss Seam framework into a single integrated, tested and certified platform for Java applications.

It is the first of several certified distributions Red Hat plans to deliver for specific use cases.

Red Hat expects the Application Platform to form the basis of future enterprise platforms including a JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform and a JBoss SOA Platform, both due this year.

The new widgetry, whose performance in the market may help prove or disprove contentions that Red Hat is locked out of middleware, has been certified on Red Hat 5, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows, with JVMs from BEA, HP and Sun and databases from Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL and PostgresSQL.
