Welcome to NetBeans

Welcome to NetBeans, the project that develops NetBeans IDE, the full-featured integrated environment for Java Developers and NetBeans Platform, the widely adopted infrastructure backplane for complex desktop applications.

NetBeans provides all the tools software developers need to create cross-platform Java desktop, enterprise and web applications. Runs on Windows, Linux, MacOS, as well as Solaris. It is easy to install and use, works right out of the box -- and it is open-source and free! Visit the official website www.NetBeans.org for more information.

NetBeans IDE 5.5.1 BlueJ Edition
NetBeans.org and BlueJ.org are proud to announce the availability of NetBeans IDE 5.5.1 BlueJ Edition.

This special edition of NetBeans IDE is a collaboration between the NetBeans community and the University of Kent, England. The NetBeans IDE BlueJ Edition is targeted at teachers and students familiar with the popular BlueJ tool (www.bluej.org). The NetBeans BlueJ Edition helps you "make the jump" from BlueJ to a full-featured IDE, either when your projects have grown too big to fit comfortably into BlueJ, or when you want to use features such as code completion and drag-and-drop GUI building, which BlueJ doesn't directly support.

NetBeans IDE 5.5.1 BlueJ Edition is available in English and has been localized into simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Brazilian Portuguese. The 5.5.1 version includes fixes of several bugs that were in the 5.0 version.

To learn more about using BlueJ and NetBeans in education, see edu.netbeans.org/bluej .

Meet a NetBeans Module Writer: Caoyuan Deng
Caoyuan Deng is a developer in Canada who is using the brand new Schliemann approach to create language features for Erlang in NetBeans IDE. For the uninintiated, "Schliemann" allows you to declaratively assign NetBeans IDE language features to tokens and grammar, instead of requiring you to implement a long list of NetBeans APIs to create language features, such as code completion, for a file type. (For more information on Schliemann, go here.) And what is "Erlang"? Read the interview below to find out...

Plug into the Sun Grid with NetBeans IDE
The Sun Grid Module Suite for NetBeans IDE enables access to the Sun Grid Compute Utility (SGCU) at Network.com directly from within NetBeans.

The SGCU provides easy access to an enormous computing resource over the Internet.

With this plugin you can develop Java applications for the SGCU, deploy and execute applications with a single click, create Resources and Jobs, and run Jobs and monitor their progress. It also provides mechanisms for automating the deployment and execution of applications targeted for the SGCU.

More information (including installation and usage examples) is available at sungrid.dev.java.net and sungridplugin.dev.java.net.

JavaFX and NetBeans
JavaFX is a new family of Sun products based on Java technology and targeted at the high impact, rich content market and is initially comprised of JavaFX Script and JavaFX Mobile. Project OpenJFX is a project of the OpenJFX community for sharing early versions of the JavaFX Script language and for collaborating on its development.

Plug-ins are already available through the Update Centers for both NetBeans 5.5 and NetBeans 6.0 Milestone 9. There are install instructions on the Project OpenJFX site.
