Cool Tool: DBclient
This tool aims to provide a powerful jdbc tool mainly for developers not only for connecting and browsing all compatible jdbc relational database objects but also to give a simple way for writing SQL commands nicely (syntaxe coloring) enhanced with an intelligent editor (auto complete) and script debugging tools, and much more...


Tiny Tool: GlueGen
GlueGen is a tool which automatically generates the Java and JNI code necessary to call C libraries. It reads as input ANSI C header files and separate configuration files which provide control over many aspects of the glue code generation.


Great Idea: SpinJob
The main goal of the project is to develop a database comparison application. It is possible to save a snapshot of some or all tables of a given database as a way of saving a database state for future comparisons. There are four modes of comparison: 1-database instance with database instance 2-database instance with snapshot 3-snapshot with database instance 4-snapshot with snapshot It is possible to save the result of a comparison. Any database (accessed through a JDBC driver) may be used.

jMOS 0.9.1
The jMOS project, an open Java implementation for the Media Object Server (MOS) communications protocol, has released version 0.9.1. "Profile 2, multiple listeners and repliers, and the ability to add filters in listeners and repliers were implemented."

Deployment 1.0 Beta
The Deployment project is glad to announce the release of version 1.0 beta. They write in, "This is the initial release of the repackaged JnlpDownloadServlet from the JDK and a repackaged Pack200 Ant task from Kumar Srinivasan."

Ravenous 0.5.9
The Ravenous project has announced the release of version 0.5.9. "This release several minor feature enhancements and one major: the ability to easily handle file uploads. It forces source compilations to 1.4 mode to prevent problems caused by 1.5 generics."

Tomcat Probe - Initial Release
The Tomcat Probe development team have announced the release its initial release. "Tomcat Probe is a FREE and powerful tool to manage a single Tomcat host in real time. It is Web based and features almost all the functionality of standard Tomcat Manager. In addition to standard functionality the Probe has a few features that would help both web developers and systems administrators to make Tomcat a more transparent sever."

Oracle Donates Oracle ASF
Omar Tazi has announced that Oracle has open sourced its UI components of JSF called Oracle ASF. "I am pleased to announce that Oracle is contributing a rich set of UI components based on the JavaServer Faces specification to the Apache Software Foundation under the Apache 2.0 license. The donation was originally part of Oracle ADF. What it will be called in the future is yet to be determined by the Apache MyFaces community."

Java Studio Creator 2
Sun Microsystems has announced the release of Java Studio Creator 2. "Over 20,000 users loved the early access version of the Java Studio Creator 2 IDE, and now it's released with the full benefits of early access usability testing and community participation."

Java Memory Profiler (JMP) 0.49
The Java Memory Profiler (JMP) project has announced the release of version 0.49. "GTK handling has been improved. A deadlock has been fixed. Tables can now be sorted both ascending and descending. Preferences are now saved and restored. The build process on MS Windows has been improved."

Eclipse BIRT 2.0
The Eclipse BIRT development team have announced the release of version 2.0. "BIRT now supports HTML pagination, CSV output, and a Table Of Contents with the supplied BIRT Viewer. In addition, features such as Libraries, Templates, Multi-Pass aggregates, flexible Charting Wizard and XML as a data source all contribute to making BIRT 2.0 a powerful platform for your reporting needs. This release represents the culmination of a community-driven development cycle that has facilitated the development of quite a list of features and functions."

JetNuke 1.2
The JetNuke project, a Java port of PHPNuke, has released version 1.2. "A new 'Pictures' module. Users can create their own galleries. (X)HTML and CSS have better standards compliance. Users can post comments about reviews. FCKEditor has been upgraded to version 2.2. A JetNuke Reference Guide has been added."

Winstone 0.8
The Winstone project, a Java Servlet Container, has released version 0.8. "A few important new features, including an expanded JDBC connection pool (with keep-alive queries and block-and-retry behaviour when the pool has been exhausted), name-based virtual hosting, Apache-style customizable access logging, and an all-in-one jar file container + Web app deployment option. There are many performance enhancements and bugfixes, especially for WebDAV support."

MyEclipse 4.1
The MyEclipse project has announced the release of version 4.1. "AJAX/Web 2.0 support; Enhanced JavaScript Editor, New JavaScript Debbugger, New Web 2.0 Workbench and Browser, UML sequence diagram support, Spring/Hibernate integration, new Hibernate mapping editor, advanced drag and drop capabilities, Visual Web Designer Zoom, JSP Preview Localization, advanced server management, and New Image Editor for Eclipse 3.1"

Eclipse advances open source BI platform
The Eclipse Foundation is expected to announce the release of the second version of its open source Business Intelligence Reporting Tools project.

IBM Secure Shell Library for Java
IBM alphaWorks has released their Secure Shell Library for Java project. They write in, "The Java based lightweight implementation of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Secure Shell (SSH-2) protocol provides secure remote log-in and other secure network services over an insecure network. The protocol has three major components: Transport Layer, User Authentication and Connection."

Compass Framework 0.8.1
The Compass Framework search project has announced the release of version 0.8.1. They write in, "Major features include support for component mapping integrated with reference mappings, auto compound / un-compound of index structure, analyzer filters (with synonym filter), support MySql with emulateLocators and Oracle 8 for Jdbc storage. Major bug fixed is duplicates created when using Hibernate with sub-classes, both of them mapped to compass."

Apache Tomcat 5.5.15 Stable
The Apache Tomcat development team have released version 5.5.15 Stable. "The Tomcat team has voted the 5.5.15 release as stable, with binding +1 votes from Peter Rossbach, Remy Maucherat, Jim Jagielski, Mladen Turk, and Jeanfrancois Arcand."

Thanks to the efforts of many people across the industry, Mustang (Java SE 6) is moving forward and is looking to be a very exciting release. Beta is scheduled for public availability within the next few weeks and Sun will open up the Dolphin project (Java SE 7) on java.net for contributions and feedback in a few months.    Ray Gans

Meeraj Kunnumpurath Interceptors with EJB 3
I have been having a look at EJB 3.0 interceptors with Glassfish. EJB 3.0 allows you to define interceptor methods that are called around the business methods and lifecycle events on the bean instances. The interceptor methods can either be defined within the bean class or in separate interceptor classes. Interceptor definitions and binding interceptors to bean classes or specific methods within the beans can be done either using annotations or within the deployment descriptors.
