Comparing webapp frameworks : Model 1 with scriptlets: Before we dive into the frameworks, I want to drop back to basics to give some context behind why the frameworks exist and what benefits they provide. For this reason, let's look at a naive model 1 implementation of the sample application. If you're already familiar with the whole model 1 vs. model 2 thing, you might want to skip reading this particular entry.

Deliver Your Java Application in One-JAR!: Packing a simple application I discovered I can't include the driver of the MySql into the JAR of my application. This is a feature of the JAR tool that force the users to download several files or to use an external unzip tool in order to unzip the files before running the aplication - very odd.

Great Expectations and a few disappointments with NetBeans 5: I was always suspicious that NetBeans were a second-class citizen inside Sun, but a recent statement from Robert Brewin threw off many of my fears. Yet I think NetBeans is taking some wrong paths in spite of the great new features.

Thread: Implement dependencies to make development easier:
How many times have you used a thread that depend from an other one?
Personally, a lot's of time... and each time I need to implement cascading start/stop method to make threads starting in the right order.
What about using extended Thread classes that manage dependencies automatically?

Embarassing Moments at JavaOne (and OSCON): There are two experiences in my life that caused me such embarassment that though years have passed, when I reflect back upon them for more than a few seconds, I find myself subconciously curling up into the fetal position with a pained expression burned into my face. These are *not* those experiences.

Give Me My Commodity Text Widget Features, Please: One of OS X's pioneering features was giving check-as-you-type, right-click-suggest spell checking to every application that wanted it, free of charge. The next text widget feature I want to see commoditized is auto-complete.
