How does the brain work?
How does our mind work?

A few weeks ago I was working at my office and the UPS guy arrived with some packages with a purchase order number with the letters B C H and some other numbers and letters. I just saw the package for a second with a quick look and what it came to my mind instantly was "BatiCHoco" a chocolate beverage in my childhood!

That made me think a lot about how does the mind works.

It seems as if there were somebody sat on a SPRING ready to jump on the first time that he sees something FAMILIAR BUT NOT EXACT.

The same happens with faces of people. How many times have you seen a face on the street that seems familiar and you try to remember who is she or he?

Simple Pattern recognition (it looks like...) Then fetch the details of the information that you think you are looking for.

This way you don't always get the EXACT information: The BCH wasn't Batichoco, and many times the face you saw wasn't the person you were thinking.

INEXACTNESS IS PART OF OUR MIND

That leads me to think on how databases work nowadays: We give the EXACT key in order to get the details of the information that we are looking for. If we don't give the exact key we're not going to get the exact information.

What if we give the partial key and that leads us to a FAMILIAR details and those details take us to a more detailing set of information and so on until we get what we are looking for, or something USEFUL if not the exact.

TWO OR MORE LEVELS OF DETAILS, beginning with a very THIN, LIGHT LAYER OF INFORMATION. Next come the "heavier" layers with more and more information.

I think of a very simple sketch as the 1st layer of information. When the "guy on the spring" sees a face with a familiar pattern he will jump and try to get the more details... and either he gets the information of the person or don't. Does the guy jumps on an direct order given by us?

The first layer is simple and light, that’s why searching on this layer is quick, faster, with fewer resources. The deeper layer have more information and should be accessed only if necessary and as a result of a call from the first layer.
