New York Times Column Archives

I write two columns each week for the New York Times. One of them appears in the printed newspaper, on the front page of the Circuits section. The other one goes out by email to anyone who'd signed up for it here. It's a shorter, funnier, more casual one.

My home page always includes links to the current print and email columns. To find past columns, see the information below. Happy reading!

How to Find Back Issues of the Print Column

Looking for something I wrote in the New York Times?

You can find any "State of the Art" column at the New York Times Web site.

HOW TO GET IT QUICKLY: Use the Search function (for example, search for "Pogue and Windows XP"). If the article is more than a few weeks old, you'll have to pay $2.50 to retrieve it in full.

HOW TO GET IT FOR FREE: You have to do a little bit of calculating to find out the secret Web address of each column. The format is this:

http://www.nytimes.com/2002/04/18/technology/circuits/18STAT.html

Just replace the dates, shown here in bold, with the date of the column you're looking for. This address would find the April 18, 2002 column.

Thanks for your interest!
