Todd Ogasawara. How to get a Bluetooth Phone talking to a Pocket PC
Todd Ogasawara's O'Reilly weblog... Getting a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone to work with a PDA (Pocket PC or Palm OS device) can sometimes be a hairpulling task. Fortunately for us there are Bluetooth-smart people on the web willing to share their knowledge with us. [O'Reilly Weblogs]

Wireless makes city-wide Big Games possible
From the Bluetooth Weblog... Tomorrow marks the last ConQwest “Big Game” of 2005 taking place in Portland, Oregon. Big Games mark the confluence of the real and virtual. In this orchestrated event, people congregate in one general location, say Downtown Portland, and start playing a big game on city streets. An early big game was a simulation of PacMan using real people running around the streets of Manhattan. The controller used cellular communications to tell PacMan which way to run, and the ghosts tried to find him.

Carrier.GSM Continues to Dominate in the Western Hemisphere -- Customer Base Doubles in One Year
From the RSS newswire... With subscriber results in from Informa Telecoms & Media's World Cellular Information Service for first quarter 2005, 3G Americas reports that the GSM customer base in the Western Hemisphere has more than doubled from 65.9 million. [Wireless Developer Network News]

Make a Skype Phone
Phillip Torrone's MAKE weblog... Awhile back I made a Skype Payphone- now someone has made a more practical one that will fit on a desk nicely and can go mobile. Here's a how-to on making a Skype phone out of an old cordless phone. I like how the author figured out which leads to tap in to [via] Link. [MAKE Magazine Weblog]

Nokia 770: Our generation's Tri-corder/PADD?
Todd Ogasawara's O'Reilly weblog... The Nokia 770 Internet Tablet is a Linux based WiFi-enabled handheld device that is a bit smaller than the Sony Playstation Portable. If this device comes in under US$600, it will definitely be in my must-buy toy list :-) [O'Reilly Weblogs]

palmOne Renews Palm OS License from PalmSource
From the RSS newswire... PalmSource and palmOne Inc. today announced that palmOne has renewed its license of the Palm operating system. As part of this new agreement, palmOne can continue to develop and market smartphones and other mobile devices. [Wireless Developer Network News]

5 Million A Week And Climbing
From the Bluetooth Weblog... The growing acceptance and use of Bluetooth technology in applications such as cellphones, PCs, and cars has led to the announcement by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) that weekly global shipments of Bluetooth units has hit the 5 million mark. According to Michael Foley, the executive director of the SIG, the recently announcement collaboration between the group and supporters of UWB technology will only lead to further growth and inclusion into more types of applications and products.

PalmOne Buys Palm Name from PalmSource
From the RSS newswire... Okay, so Daddy is confused. If I'm reading all this correctly, PalmOne just bought the name 'Palm' from PalmSource, which means they'll be known as 'Palm' and PalmSource will be taking on a new name. It cost PalmOne something like $30 million to secure the name, so I guess they think that's an important part of their strategy, even though PalmOne doesn't make the Palm OS. If nothing else, this ensures the possibility that we might be using Windows Mobile-powered 'Palm' devices in the relatively near future (if rumors hold water). [Gizmodo]

Designing the 802.11 Protocol Map poster
Matthew Gast's O'Reilly weblog... I fit things together visually. As the 802.11 protocol suite has grown more complex, I worked out a visual representation for how it all fit together. [O'Reilly Weblogs]

Yahoo Mobile RSS reader workaround
Todd Ogasawara's O'Reilly weblog... If you created a separate page for collecting RSS feeds on your My Yahoo personal portal page, you may have noticed that they aren't showing up on your Yahoo Mobile portal page for your mobile device (phone or PDA). Here's the workaround for this problem. [O'Reilly Weblogs]

Does your Google Homepage look ok on your phone or PDA?
Todd Ogasawara's O'Reilly weblog... The new Google personal homepage beta is getting a lot of press (like all new Google features). So, I decided to try it on a couple of mobile device browsers. One hit. Two misses. How about your phone or PDA, does your Google personal homepage look ok on it? [O'Reilly Weblogs]

PSP Update?
Phillip Torrone's MAKE weblog... There seems to be a PSP update which makes the USA units go to 1.5.1, not sure what it does- but I'm really reluctant to install this- with all the PSP firmware hacks to run home-brew games perhaps Sony is proactively making it harder to change the USA units. If you're willing to update your unit though, hit the wireless update menu. [MAKE Magazine Weblog]

PalmOne LifeDrive Mobile Manager: Is it cool or too big for today's comsumer tastes?
Todd Ogasawara's O'Reilly weblog... PalmOne's LifeDrive PDA is the first PDA I know of with an integrated microdrive (4GB large). It also has integrated Bluetooth and 802.11b WiFi capabilities. So, is the world ready with an open wallet for this intersection of a Palm PDA and iPod mini? [O'Reilly Weblogs]

Review: palmOne LifeDrive
From the RSS newswire... What is silver, has a hard drive, and replaces a handheld, iPod mini, laptop, and video player? palmOne says it's their new LifeDrive. Read on to get Larry Garfield's opinion.

Find Cheap Gas with Google Maps
Phillip Torrone's MAKE weblog... Mashing up Google maps and Gasbuddy = locations of cheap gas in your area on a Google map (map or satellite view). Just choose a city- then the data on the right side is updated cheapest gas prices. If you have mobile high speed access you could add a GPS and have this running while you drive. In the future, maybe our cars will do this for us. Via Robotwisdom. Link. [MAKE Magazine Weblog]
