Welcome to the Java User Groups Community
Java User Groups (JUGs) are the place were Java users can get information, share resources and solutions, increase networking, work together to achieve better Java Technology expertise, and above all, drink beer, eat pizza and have fun. The Java User Groups Community aims to be the meeting point for JUGs, in order to create a better interaction among the groups, expanding and strengthening the Java movement worldwide. Here, in the JUGs Community page, JUG leaders and JUG members can come to share information about creating, joining and running a JUG, and to work together in tools, projects and discussions that are important for the worldwide Java community.
Take a look at the JUGs Community Objectives, to lear how your JUG can benefit from participation in this community!

JUG.RU Profile: an Interview with Yakov Sirotkin
It is my pleasure to feature our first profile of a Java Users Group: JUG.RU! The primary goal of these interviews (and the ones to follow) is to help JUGs across the world to share information about each other, from how a JUG is organized, to interesting tidbits such as local logos and activities. Would you like to see your JUG featured in an upcoming JUG Profile interview? Contact one of the java.net JUGs community contacts (see sidebar)
Eitan Suez and Totto join forces with Bruno as Community Leaders
As of today, Eitan Suez and Totto will assist Bruno in his work to facilitate and incubate Java entusiasts on java.net. This will hopefully provide better service and new ideas and initiatives. We have a few ideas of our own, but are always keen to know what kind of services you all feel are missing on the community dimmension of java.net. (Mar 01, 2005)

Hong Kong JUG e PortalJava: the first graduates on the JUGs Community
We're plased to announce the first two JUGs to graduate from the JUG Incubator. The Hong Kong JUG, with their beautiful Duke-Panda logo, and Portal Java, a virtual community in Brazil, have completed in short time the assignments needed to have a nice JUG project in java.net. Taking care in creating a complete project helps our community, and brings more users to your group. Please, visit the Hong Kong JUG and the PortalJava, to see what you can do to improve your project, and visit the jugs-incubator project to see the easy steps you need to complete.
Announcing the jugs-incubator: where JUGs new to java.net prepare their projects for the world challenges
The JUGs Community is launching the jugs-incubator project. JUGs that want to host their project in java.net now have a place and time to better prepare their participation. The incubator will allow for faster approval of JUG projects, since they can be approved right on, before their project is ready. Once JUGs take the time to learn and configure their java.net project, they can then graduate from the incubator. Come visit the JUGs that are right now in the jugs-incubator! You will also learn easy steps the will help you improve your own project.
Making a difference -- Vietnamese developers help changing JDK 1.5
Brian Beck, from Sun, acknowledges that the strong demand received from Vietnamese developers helped "bend the rules" on the release of JDK 1.5.
This is a strong example on how JUGs can help shape the future of Java.
Brian said that:
"[...] by [Sun's] normal rules it would be too late to add
Vietnamese support to 1.5. However, because of the very strong demand
we have received [...], I have received approval to
"bend" the rules some what."
Congratulations to JavaVietnam for the great organizational work, and many thanks to Sun form understanding the importance of Java User Groups.
Import your Mailing Lists into java.net
Java.net offers all the infrastructure to handle your JUG mailing lists, so you can host your announcements, news and discussion lists, and even moderated lists. To help you create and import your existing users, you can use the JavaNet Mailing List Tool, that is targeted for helping JUG Leaders in managing their java.net mailing lists.
JUG Events and Meetings
The java.net Events Calendar has a special place for listing Java User Group events and meetings. If your meeting time isn't already listed fill out the Event Form to add it to the list. Be sure to choose "User Group" as the Event Type.
Java User Groups Wiki
Our wiki is a great way to promote your user group meetings and allow members to share valuable information. Currently the AustinJUG, BeJUG, JavaBahia, SanDiegoJUG, RichmondJUG, and SouJava projects are taking advantage of our wiki space.

PJUG leader talks about his experience in creating this large JUG in India
Mayuresh Kadu, on his weblog, talks about how he created Pune Java User Group in India, and how important JUGs are to users.
Mayuresh shows how JUGs can help "geting people together using Java as a common point of interest. Get them to meet, discuss, make friends, bounce ideas and even pass on opportunities once in a while".
He also says that "personally, the benefit has been that i have made a large number of friends".
What's your experience with your JUG?

The Strength of Java Users Groups
Java Users Groups are a fundamental part of the Java Community. Spread all around the world, they are many times the closest link to developers and the true representatives of the community for local companies and governments. But are JUGs participating in the evolution of the Java technology? Can they be more effective for the benefit of all the Java world?
