Zemberek Natural Language Processing (NLP) libraries and Open Office Spellchecker Plugin

Zemberek , translated literally from Turkish is "main spring of clock", is the Project Spotlight this week. We talk with Ahmet Akin from project Zemberek to find out more on his project and a little obout himself. The project deals with coding Natural Language Processing (NLP) libraries for the Turkish Language. The first product of this of Zemberek is a Turkish Open Office Spellchecker plugin. Students to win prizes and fame today in Amsterdam for writing J2ME applications for Ricoh
The student winners of the Ricoh & the Sun Java[tm] Platform Powered by U contest will announced June 3rd. The contest has been hosted b the Global Education and Learning Community (GELC) at Java.net. Students competed for Sun computers and a trip to JavaOne plus their university gets a high end Ricoh MFP. Read on for more about why we did the contest and info about the awards event.

John Reynolds, project owner of TapestryWebcomponentExamples, has has a great project to host examples on Jakarta's Tapestry's Java Web Components. The Global education and Learning Community (GELC) is graduating the project from our incubator, so we sat down with John to talk about his project and to learn a little about himself.

New Projects in the GELC for May 16th, 2005

We have four new projects are in the Global Education and Learning Community (GELC). This week we have a project about optimization, a mind map for Java concepts, an open source factory modeler, and an IDE for the creation and study of Evolutionary Algorithms.

We are putting your open source projects on stage all week long at JavaOne. But not just your favorites, but the ones "you" run and participate with here at Java.net. Every day in the JavaOne Pavilion we are running mini talks on projects in the java.net community.... That means if you or your buddies run a project on Java.net or move a project to Java.net real soon, you can probably get to talk about it. We have another crop of new projects in in the Global Education and Learning Community (GELC). This week we have a system to publish theses, a Bliki written in Java, a Java Exam simulator, masters thesis investigating an agent-based privacy directive, a recorder that watches you work and listens to your speech, a compression database, language parser, and a purchase calculator. Take a look at these great projects and lend a hand to help them start.

New projects in the Global Education and Learning Community for April 5th, 2005

We have another crop of new projects. This week we have learning with orangutans, a study group using Java, the implementation of a belief-system algorithm, and a system for managing a volunteer organization. Take a look at these great projects and lend a hand to help them start.

zemberek - Turkish NLP library and Turkish Spell Checking

Zemberek is one of the very interesting projects oriented around the Turkish language and subjects like Natural Language Processing and even spell checking for Turkish. This open source project is something we really like seeing here within the Global Education and Learning Community (GELC) because of its international base. The project leaders themselves are also located in two different countries! I talked to the owners about themselves and the future of their project.


Managing membership requests

If you are a project owner at Java.net, you get a lot of requests from new members to join your project. Here are some pointers both to manage the process and reduce inappropriate requests.
