Meeting someone real-time enhances what you know about a person and it's usually a little disorienting (ok, you will not really explode) You never know if the next person is going to make your day, year, or life better and my mission at JavaOne is to meet as many people as I can. Read on for more about why you should look me up or go on your own mission to meet interesting people at JavaOne. — Daniel Brookshier
John Reynolds, project owner of TapestryWebcomponentExamples, has has a great project to host examples on Jakarta's Tapestry's Java Web Components. The Global education and Learning Community (GELC) is graduating the project from our incubator, so we sat down with John to talk about his project and to learn a little about himself.
We have four new projects are in the Global Education and Learning Community (GELC). This week we have a project about optimization, a mind map for Java concepts, an open source factory modeler, and an IDE for the creation and study of Evolutionary Algorithms.
Read on for more information about these new projects. If you are interested in them, email the owners about what you know and ask how you can help.
![]() We are putting your open source projects on stage all week long at JavaOne. But not just your favorites, but the ones "you" run and participate with here at Java.net. Every day in the JavaOne Pavilion we are running mini talks on projects in the java.net community.... That means if you or your buddies run a project on Java.net or move a project to Java.net real soon, you can probably get to talk about it. All you need to do is pick a time and propose it on the Community Corner wiki . Read on for more info.

Zemberek is one of the very interesting projects oriented around the Turkish language and subjects like Natural Language Processing and even spell checking for Turkish. This open source project is something we really like seeing here within the Global Education and Learning Community (GELC) because of its international base. The project leaders themselves are also located in two different countries! I talked to the owners about themselves and the future of their project. ![]() If you are a project owner at Java.net, you get a lot of requests from new members to join your project. Here are some pointers both to manage the process and reduce inappropriate requests. ![]()
Managing an open source project shouldn't be hard. Here are some simple rules to post on your project to help you and your contributors manage work on your source.
The Sun Education and Research Conference is getting started in San Francisco this week. Most of us are not at this conference, so we need to rally ourselves within the virtual space of the java.net to promote global education and life long learning. — Daniel Brookshier
