Please feel free to add the RSS feed to your podcatcher or catch up on all previous episodes and send any comments to perlcast at gmail." I haven't listened to it yet, and would be interested in the comments of those who have.

Maddingue writes "The Marseilles Perl mongers are proud to announce that the second edition of the French Perl Workshop will be held at Marseilles, France on June 9 and 10, 2005.
The French Perl Workshop is the occasion for people to meet and talk about Perl -in French. People who have done interesting things, people who are working on the language itself, people who are using it daily, and people who are looking to learn about it, will all be there within arm's reach. Some of the greatest authors and developpers in the field will be on hand to speak about their work and projects, to level them to anyone, from newbies to gurus.
Do join with us for these two days of listening, talking and learning about Perl in the University of Luminy (Faculté des Sciences de Luminy), surrounded by creaks, lavender and cicadas.
As a special event, the Perl6/Parrot/Pugs hack-a-ton co-organized with the Austrian Perl Workshop.
For more information (venue, registration fees, sumiting a talk, etc), please visit the the web site."

Allison writes "NLnet, a non-profit organization supporting open source network technology research and development, announced on Friday that it will sponsor US $70,000 of Parrot development work. The funding will go to Leopold Tötsch who has been the pumpking for Parrot since 2003 and Chip Salzenberg who recently stepped into the role of chief architect for Parrot. NLnet's contribution will allow Salzenberg and Tötsch to concentrate on completing the first two Parrot development milestones from the Perl Foundation's funding proposal: API specification and stub implementation for 9 critical subsystems. (They will each receive $5k at the start of a milestone, $1k on the completion of each subsystem for the milestone, and $3.5k on completion of the milestone.)
Wytze van der Raay, financial director for NLnet, commented "NLnet has observed the evolution of Perl into one of the essential tools for developing internet applications and managing internet services. The Parrot architecture is promising to add features of special importance to network applications, while simultaneously opening up the technology for several other dynamic languages. One of NLnet's major goals is to remove road-blocks for Open Source projects like Parrot. Thus we look forward to being part of this project, and hope that other organisations will follow our example." Allison Randal, president of the Perl Foundation responded: "Our heartfelt thanks go to the whole team at NLnet. Their contribution will significantly accelerate the 1.0 release of Parrot."
For more information on how to sponsor Perl or Parrot read the contribution FAQ.

Andy Grundman writes "The Catalyst development team is proud to announce the release of Catalyst version 5. Catalyst is an "Elegant MVC Web Application Framework", which means it provides an easy-to-use API for gluing together database models (Class::DBI), web templates (Template Toolkit, Mason), and your custom web actions/controllers and running it all on your web server. Catalyst borrows heavily from systems like Ruby On Rails and Maypole. The key concepts are DRY (don't repeat yourself) and Lego Architecture (reusable components).
The Catalyst 5 distribution is available via CPAN and you can visit the Catalyst web site at catalyst.perl.org for more information."
