Intel Says Goodbye to 4GHz P4 in Computer Processors
Contributed by DMOS
Article Rating:starstarstarstarstar / 9
2004-10-18

Computer ProcessorsIntel has decided to cash out of the "clock speed is everything" game. Can't say we didn't see it coming. In fact, this day has been coming ever since the canceling of "Tejas", the desktop replacement of Prescott which was supposed to drive Intel's chips up to 10GHz on a 65 nanometer revision of the Netburst core design.  Discuss  (0)

Why Silicon Features are so Important Now in Computer Processors
Contributed by DMOS
Article Rating:starstarstarstarstar / 18
2004-10-13

Computer ProcessorsSilicon features, otherwise known through the industry as blue crystals, have not been marketed by the largest desktop CPU manufacturer nearly as hard as clock speed has for many years. How was Intel able to get away with that? Why are they no longer able to simply sell newer chips on GHz alone any more? What are they going to do about it? Those are some of the more pertinent questions out there these days.  Discuss  (1)

Gainward TV2GO Review in Video Cards
Contributed by Cyd
Article Rating:starstarstarstarstar / 14
2004-10-12

Video CardsMost of you have at the very least heard about TV tuner cards for your PC. They allow you to not only watch television on your PC, but also to record shows and movies and use time-shifting so you can pause live TV, in effect giving you a Tivo-esque experience. Today we'll be taking a look at Gainward's "portable" solution in this field.  Discuss  (8)

Controlling Games with the Keyboard and Mouse in PC Gaming
Contributed by Sams Publishing
Article Rating:starstarstarstarstar / 11
2004-10-11

PC GamingThere's a name for a game with no user interaction—it's called a screensaver! Learn how a mouse handles input and create a program with an animated graphical object that you can control with the keyboard and mouse. Creative Labs: The Microsoft of Sound in Sound Cards
Contributed by DMOS
Article Rating:starstarstarstarstar / 21
2004-10-07

Sound CardsThere, I said it: The "Microsoft of Sound". In case you weren't aware, that generally isn't seen as a positive comment. Let's see the similarities. Both are considered monopolies in their respective areas. Both use patents to scare off competitors, or just buy them out. Both have bloaty, buggy software. That's a lot in common. Too much. (Are we sure they aren't run by the same people?)  Discuss  (3)

Gigabyte X800 Pro Review in Video Cards
Contributed by KaoMAN
Article Rating:starstarstarstarstar / 33
2004-10-06

Video CardsThe maximum core and memory overclock of the Gigabyte X800 Pro was 550MHz core and 1100MHz memory. This is an increase of 75MHz core and 200MHz memory over the 475/900 stock speed. But the card does not support hardware monitoring. The 6800 is the better performer for Halo and Far Cry while the X800 Pro takes the lead in NFSU.  Discuss  (0)

DiamondMax 10: What does 16 MB Cache and the New Native Command Queuing do? in Storage Devices
Contributed by Robert Jacobs
Article Rating:starstarstarstarstar / 21
2004-10-05

Storage DevicesNCQ is the latest buzz word in hard disk technologies. It adds an intelligence to the way disks access data. It's the biggest thing since sliced bread (or, at least, since the 10K Raptor drives). How does it measure up in the real world? The Maxtor DiamondMax 10 with NCQ is tested against today's fastest SATA drive, the Western Digital Raptor.  Discuss  (1)

IBM ThinkPad X31 Review in Computer Systems
Contributed by DMOS
Article Rating:starstarstarstarstar / 6
2004-10-04

Computer SystemsThe IBM ThinkPad X31, light enough that you don't have to be a champion bodybuilder to carry it. But it skips features that some would consider to be absolute necessities such as optical drives. Recommended more for business people than for students. See more results in this review, including details on Intel Pentium M 1.4 Ghz processor.  Discuss  (5)

The tragedy wasn't that they were killed by a flaming ball of rock and ice, the problem was that it happened during the prime of their existence. Oh sure, humans are here, but what would have happened if that asteriod never struck? More  (2)

Sometimes it seems that the Web is just about the only place where the disabled really do still get ignored. The W3C dictates a set of standards to help the disabled, but a pathetic few number of sites actually do. What would you do to ensure disability compliance across the Web? More  (0)

Web Hosting

We've all heard it: the hosting company that was subjected to a security breach because they don't have a properly configured firewall. The sad truth is that anyone hosting a site is guilty of bad security at some point. Share some of your "dumb" mistakes, and help others avoid them in the future! More  (0)
