JDBC RowSet Co-Bundle for JWSDP 1.4
So why provide a JDBC RowSet co-bundle for the Java Web Services Pack 1.4 ? Many of you have contacted us with various questions on how to use the standard RowSet definitions and reference implementations that we have provided as part of JSR-114.

Welcome to the JSR community
Welcome to our newest community, the JSR community. The java.net JSR community has been created to support the goals of JCP version 2.6 to make the process more transparent. File sharing, news groups, mailing lists and other services are among the services offered to help to achieve these objectives.

Welcome to the JavaServer (TM) Faces Implementation Project!
After several years of internal development, Sun felt it was time to open our kimono and share the source code of the official Reference Implementation for JavaServer(TM) Faces technology with the world. In this blog, I welcome you to the project, share the development model we have used to bring the project to its present state, and give some insight into where we want to go in the future.

Covering JavaOne
We've changed the front page of java.net between now and July 6 to host our coverage for this year's JavaOne Conference.
The Big Question...
For the Java community, there has only been one issue that could be labeled "The Big Question". Looks as if there's a keynote session on it.

Exception chaining in JDBC
Exception chaining has become an increasingly popular pattern as a way to better manage exceptions. As part of JDBC 4.0, we are giving consideration to introducing exception chaining to the primary exception class definition: java.sql.SQLException.

JDBC 4.0, and JDBC Performance at JavaOne 2004
Ease of Development is a core driver for much of the work underway in many JSRs - particularily JDBC 4.0. At JavaOne this year we will be talking about some of early draft proposals and I will presenting our ideas, including code examples.

Simple, Fast, no-Loss binary XML - Fast Infoset
What can you do if you would want to use XML but you are having performance problems? Binary encodings have been proposed and investigated for a while but they have yet to gain real adoption. Here is a proposed standard that delivers substantial performance benefits without losing the benefits of XML. Think of it as an improved GZIPed XML...

Added an "Other Resources" Section
I've added a section for Other Resources on our left panel. Right now it only has a link to PlanetJava.org, which is the best Java Blog aggregator I've seen so far. (Jun 04, 2004)

Introduction to J2ME Web Services
C. Enrique Ortiz has written about " the J2ME Web Services [ ..] API's two optional packages standardize two areas of functionality that are crucial to clients of web services: remote service invocation and XML parsing"
What is in JWSDP 1.4...
Sun has announced that it will release JWSDP 1.4 in the very near future. New features in this release include support for additional containers and support for two key news specs: BP 1.1 with Attachements Profile 1.0 from WS-I and Web Services Security from OASIS. Stay tuned to this channel for the actual release of the bits.

Examining the Blackout
"You can run the same test a thousand times, but it’s not going to find bugs outside its parameters."
WS-I Releases Draft of Basic Security Profile
The Web Services Interoperability Organization is asking for feedback from users and developers on the set of specifications, which are based largely on the WS-Security spec recently approved by OASIS.
Welcome! Stax Utils project
The purpose of the stax-utils project is to help facilitate the adoption of JSR-173: Streaming API for XML (StAX) by providing a set of utility classes that make it easy for developers to integrate StAX into their existing XML processing applications.
This project already has contributions from different individuals. There are nightly builds, but not yet stable builds.
The "Retail Outlet" Pattern
Imagine you entered a retail outlet to shop that just says “OPEN”. Now what will happen to you if something suddenly throws you out of the shop – No reasons given. And then you find the retail outlet with a sign “CLOSED”. You will be frustrated won’t you? Guess what - a lot of J2EE systems in production might be doing just that...
A second look at BPELJ
BPELJ will make it possible to use BPEL to orchestrate long-running interactions with Web Services and J2EE components, but embedding language specific logic within a BPEL document is an idea that should be debated by the Java community.
